Acton care home stars in TV documentary

Staff and residents of a care home in Acton watched with pride as their very own documentary programme was aired to thousands for the first time on Wednesday.

Torkington House in Creswick Road, was lucky enough to be chosen to feature in the Aged Care Channel training programme, due to their excellent patient practices.

Aired in UK and Australian care homes, the Age Care Channel shows staff giving tips and advice on patient nutrition and hydration needs as well as oral hygiene and bowel management.

Natalie St Lewis, deputy manager of Torkington House, said: "The in-house training documentary was really exciting to be a part of and we were nervous about seeing it back but it was really good.

"The residents gave their stories and staff give their views on promoting good practices in the care home especially around nutrition and hydration.

"For example, eating healthy meals and snacks throughout the day and carrying drinks with you to prompt older people to drink as they often forget to hydrate themselves.

"We're very excited that thousands of people within care homes will be watching our staff and residents."

The Aged Care channel originally launched in Australia in July 2009 and for more information visit http://www.agedcarechannel.co.uk/
