Gunnersbury Park latest

A petition has been launched calling for further investment to bridge the funding gap in the regeneration of Gunnersbury Park.

Councillors Jon Ball, and Andrew Dakers of Hounslow, launched the petition on Monday and are hoping to reach 1,000 signatures to send a strong message that more money needs to be committed to restore the park, museum and mansions.

Ealing Council has already pledged £5million but the petition is urging both councils, who jointly run the park, to commit £500,000 each per year over an eight year period to tackle the funding shortfall.

The petition also calls for a trust or body to be established and for both councils not to delay submitting funding applications to national organisations.

Councillor Jon Ball, said: "We have to do something once and for all to sort out the problems at Gunnersbury and the two councils need to come up with a funding solution.

"Hounslow still hasn't matched Ealing's pledge and there is no clarification about how they intend to bridge the funding gap.

"Our request is a perfectly financially allowable suggestion and as Gunnersbury lies on the border and neither Council fully prioritised the park, proper governance and the establishment of a trust or similar body would avoid this happening in the future."

Councillor Phil Taylor, cabinet member for customer and community services said: "Ealing Council have already committed £5million towards a more sensible project and the petition request is not based on a business plan.

"This is a seven/eight year advance while we are in an economic situation which is so changeable.

"We are actively working to come up with something more practical."
