Bromyard House Acton Surgery grinds to halt

Hopes of acquiring a state-of-the-art doctors surgery within a new housing block in Acton have been thwarted after negotiations between a health trust and developer have reached deadlock.

Bromyard House, the former Ministry of Pensions building along Bromyard Avenue, has been developed into luxury apartments by Berkeley Homes and provisions were made to house a doctors surgery for all the new families moving to the area.

It was believed that Ealing Primary Care Trust would relocate doctors from The Vale Surgery to the new site which would include an expanded list of services and modern facilities.

But after 18 months of discussions, the move is no longer seen as 'viable' which has angered community groups and Berkeley Homes has now submitted an application to build more flats in the space.

Julia Hunt of Bromyard Avenue Residents' Association, said: "We were led to believe we were getting a new surgery and after attending countless meetings and speaking with numerous officials, spending a huge amount of time trying to get this fantastic new surgery, we feel like the rug has been pulled from underneath our feet.

"This is a hugely built up area and it was identified right at the very beginning that there would be a need for an additional surgery to support the scale of people moving to the area.

"There are huge issues around healthcare, transport and schooling and everything has been fine right up until it was to be built.

Land manager for Berkeley Homes, Tom Pocock, said: "After months of negotiation, Ealing PCT have decided not to go through with this.

"This space is potentially available but we have submitted an application for nine residential properties following the breakdown.

"Part of the issue seems to be around running costs and they will need to find somewhere more suitable; this has been an amicable agreement.

"Residents are annoyed as they won't be getting their new surgery and this is unfortunate but as part of a legal agreement, we will make a contribution to healthcare while pursuing another planning application."

An Ealing PCT spokeswoman said: "We were looking at the premises in the new development but the project doesn't look viable at the moment and we are continuing to work with the existing GP in the existing premises to invest money there as well as other options to improve services for the patients.

"We will be holding discussions with local groups in the next few months to move this forward."
