Acton area Army Cadet Leader Major John Scannell LCGI, was recognised for his community based learning achievements at the national CVQO (Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation) graduation ceremony.

Admiral the Lord West of Spithead presented the award in front of colleagues, family and friends at the prestigious Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

He was awarded the City and Guilds Licentiateship in Youth Leadership and Training, comparable to a Foundation Degree and achieved through his work as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer.

From the Acton Headquarters at Creswick Road Major Scannell is responsible for nine Army cadet Detachments in the surrounding area.

John of Middlesex and North West London Army Cadet Force has been with the Army Cadets for 35 years, having joined as a cadet in 1974 and is also a police officer in the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command.

Major Scannell is one of 88 adult volunteers from the Ministry of Defence's sponsored Cadet Forces across the United Kingdom to graduate with CVQO internationally recognised awards from City & Guilds.

Successful completion of these awards recognises at least five years of professional development and managerial experience.

Lifelong learning is available through CVQO and the cadet movement, remains very much at the forefront of Government thinking.

Through its fundraising activities CVQO hopes to be able to expand what it can offer to young people and adults alike.

We'd like to hear from you.
