Opposition to New Acton Off Licence
More than a dozen people have written opposing an application to sell alcohol at a shop in Acton which is located within a high crime area.
Owner of Mini Biedronka at 3 Horn Lane, Agnieszka Pomijan, has applied for a new licence to sell alcohol off the premises between 8am and 9pm Monday to Saturday and 10am till 5pm on Sundays.
Les Smith, a Police Constable of Ealing Borough Licensing Office wrote, "These premises are within a controlled drinking zone.
"There have been more than 100 reported crimes around this location since January 1 2009, including assaults, thefts and robberies.
"The area has a large number of street drinkers who are responsible for anti-social behaviour and regularly congregate in and around the Horn Lane area and I would ask that there is no stock or sale of high volume, cheap beers, lagers and ciders above 5.5per cent."
A total of 14 residents are also opposing the move and have made a representation to the licensing sub committee which writes: "At the moment our neighbourhood is fairly quiet and a very friendly place to be around with just occasional troubles occurring.
"A new off licence will attract more alcoholics causing more noise and more crime, especially at night.
"There is already one off-licence shop at Horn Lane and a bar around the corner.
"We think this is more than enough and we do not need another off licence 100 yards away; by opening a new store, it will put the residents at danger."
But owner, Mrs Pomijan wrote she would equip the premises with CCTV to monitor customers and crime, install professional commercial lighting within the premises, train staff, including a first-aider and keep the premises and nearby area clean and tidy.
She would also perform regular safety checks and ask for photo identification from anyone who appears to be under the age of 21 in order to meet the requirements of the four licensing objectives which include the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance and protection of children from harm.
The licensing sub-committee is scheduled for Thursday October 15 at 10am.
