Acton School Playground Transformed

More than a dozen youngsters transformed their playground and proudly unveiled new flowerbeds, murals and mosaics to the Mayor.

The thirteen children from Berrymede Primary School, Osborne Road, Acton, spent the last seven months revamping their playground as part of the Big Lottery-funded Community Space Challenge encouraging youngsters to gain skills and build pride in their community.

Pupils aged 10 and 11 took part in the scheme and the Mayor of Ealing, Barbara Yerolemou, said: "This is a fantastic project that channels the energy and enthusiasm of young people into positive, practical activities.

"The legacy of the project is not just the physical improvements to the school but also the sense of achievement the young people have gained through their participation."

Ealing Council's Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Councillor Ian Gibb, said: "The improvements have already caught the eye of local residents, who say they make the area brighter and more attractive.

"The whole project really is a credit to the hard work and creativity of the young volunteers and we hope it leaves them with a lasting pride in their community."

This is the second project undertaken in Acton under this initiative, after the Ealing Council-led Youth Inclusion and Support Panel secured a five-year £58,000 grant.
