'Generations Together' in Acton
Older and younger generations will come together to learn cooking, gardening and internet skills as part of a scheme to breakdown barriers.
The Government's 'Generations Together' project has awarded £400,000 for 12 volunteer schemes in Acton including 'silver surfers', sharing internet skills and the 'community gym' where youngsters lead exercise classer for older people.
In turn, older people will pass on their cooking, sewing and gardening skills helping to bridge the generational divide in society.
Ealing Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Councillor Mark Reen, said: "There is so much to be gained by older and younger generations working together.
"We hope the projects inspire a real sense of respect between the generations and dispel some of the misconceptions they might have about each other."
Ealing was one of two London borough's and one of 12 across England chosen for the funding which is part of a £5.5million scheme to promote intergenerational volunteering.
The UK population now has more people over the age of 65 than under the age of 16.
