Acton Town Regeneration Update

Posted by Paloma Kubiak on Jul 22, 09 10:10 AM in Local Authority

More than 80per cent of Acton residents favour the town hall site as the location for the new community and leisure centre.

A total of 754 people responded to a recent Acton Town regeneration questionnaire and nearly 200 people attended a public meeting on the plans.

The preferred location was chosen by cabinet members at Tuesday evening's meeting and the South Acton Estate has now been ruled out.

Councillor David Millican, Cabinet member for Regeneration and Transport, said: "I'm keen to listen closely to the views of residents and all those who are interested in regenerating and redeveloping the town centre.

"We will continue to listen to what residents want and work together to achieve the desired improvements."

Officers will now begin looking in greater detail at options for relocating to the town hall site and further work will be carried out to consider the options for the Priory Centre building.

Before Cabinet meets again in September officers will involve residents in developing detailed options as well as talking with heritage and other interested groups.

All Cabinet decisions are subject to a call in period of five working days from the date of publication of the minutes of the meeting.
