Acton school wins award
A specialist school in Acton is being hailed as a multicultural beacon
after beating hundreds of others to a national prize.
The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls won a gold award and was named the
overall winner in cultural diversity at the national conference of the
Specialist Schools and Academies Trust in November.
Assessors who visited last summer to talk to pupils, staff, parents and
governors praised the school for its "excellent practice in developing and
embedding cultural diversity and community cohesion to raise aspirations
and achievement."
Deputy headteacher Acrise Faulkner(CORR) said: "We have always aimed to use
every opportunity to celebrate the richness and variety of the cultures,
languages and faiths represented at The Ellen Wilkinson.
"The school community, and especially those of us who have been in the
school a long time, have always known how outstanding and special our ethos
is and it is lovely to have it recognised and confirmed by this award."
