Acton nine-year-old for mayor

Posted by Dan Hodges on Oct 21, 08 04:04 PM in Local Authority

A primary school pupil from Acton will don the ceremonial robes as junior Mayor of Ealing after beating hundreds of fellow students in a competition.

Ravi Kumar, nine, from West Acton Primary School, impressed judges with his ideas for fighting crime and helping the environment during a contest for Local Democracy Week held in schools across the borough.

Ravi will now get to wear the robes for a day while shadowing the full time Mayor, Cllr Ian Green.

Ealing Council's chief executive, Darra Singh, said: "Youngsters need to realise the importance of democracy and learn how they can have their voices heard."

We'd like to hear from you.
